Home to legendary Ron Burgundy, San Diego is one of my favourite places; perfect climate, lots to do, great restaurants and a very good transit system. This October, we spent a few days there before heading south. One memorable meal was at a Brazilian Churrasco restaurant where the waiters simply kept bringing more meat around to the table, carving off the spit; another at a little Italian trattoria, hidden behind a deli. We spent a day riding the tram cars, walking around Old Town and uptown; another was at the Natural History Museum at Balboa Park, in itself a place where one could spend a week. Dad and I visited the naval museum, located aboard moth-balled aircraft carrier USS Midway. This was one of my favourite days as the whole ship was basically an open museum, complete with audio tour and probably a dozen or two aircraft. We spent another day at the Maritime Museum which featured the Star of India, an old tea clipper type ship, as well as a Russian submarine and the Surprise, which enjoyed recent fame in the movie Master and Commander.
