Definition of insanity…

NHL Free Agency has started.  I thought Canucks GM Mike Gillis and the braintrust did a great job, signing Malholtra and Hamhuis.  Both will be good additions.  With Ballard in the mix as another top-4 Dman, things are starting to look a bit more solid on the back end.  Now we just need to deal Mr. Casual (aka Bieksa), get Luongo to play less games and drop the C and keep Salo healthy and we’ll be in good shape.

What I can’t get my head around is the in-bred leadership in Calgary.  I think King is too close to the Sutters, especially Darryl, and both need to be canned.  They are ruining that team (not that I care, divisional rivals and such) and I can’t understand the decision making process.  I have a client in Calgary who says many ticket-holders are calling for Sutter’s resignation.  Rolly Olly and Tanguay have been through Cowtown once, haven’t done diddly and yet are getting another chance.  Methinks that if this doesn’t pan out, you might see a whole sale blow up of the team – players, coaches and management.  Hopefully I’m wrong.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.  Albert Einstein once said “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”.   The photo might match up nicely.  We’ll see in early October.

All aboard…

Canuck 4 – Kings 2

The Canucks advanced to the second round of the playoffs tonight, defeating the Kings in a tight match.  Josée and I watched the game in our box seats at Pridy Rd.  I was thinking back to the past season; 82 games, 42 (41, thanks DB) at home, 42 (41, again…) on the road, most of them on TSN, Sportsnet Pacific and CBC, about a dozen on pay-per-view.  Of the 70 or so on regular TV, I estimate that we watched at least 60 of them at Pridy with Mum and Dad, and usually a couple animals as well!  It’s become a tradition, with Dad sending out a game day email highlighting the teams, game notes and the supper menu!  As most games are on weeknights during the dead of winter, it’s a welcome treat to finish work, pick up the dogs (and now pig!) and head over for supper and the game!  We’ve had this tradition now for many years but we did have a new twist which commenced last season; Mum became a hockey fan!  Now she’s as rabid as the rest of us.

Anyway, it’s been a great season and I’m glad to see the team heading to the second round.  A couple days to rest and fine tune then here we go again.  For those of you new to Canucks Nation, jump on the bandwagon – better late than never – and enjoy the ride!  It’s going to be a fun playoff run!

Box seats – my annual Canucks trip

Last night I was in Vancouver, watching the Senators get pounded 5-1 by the Canucks.  It was a great game and the private box we were in was lots of fun – it sure is nice to be able to stretch my legs during the game!  There was a really nice tribute to all the Olympians done prior to the game.  Luongo and Kesler got the biggest cheers although Alfredsson on the Senators got one as well.  The private box had lots of chilis plus appetizers which again made for a thoroughly enjoyable game.

Canucks tickets in general are not cheap but I must admit that springing for a game once or twice a year is pretty fun; they put on a good show and there is nothing like seeing hockey live – so fast and so much talent!

Now, due to an internet glitch (read – Ben clicked the wrong button) Josée and I are off to another game next weekend when Detroit comes to town.  Originally, I booked the tickets for a game in October as Josée had a workshop in Vancouver so our hotel and transport were covered.  I got the tix for a steal but when they arrived, the date was 20 Mar 10 – no wonder they were cheap!  Oh well, at least we’re going I guess!
