Thanks for your support…

As many of you know, my little brother Tim had his second heart transplant on 23 December 2014.  He’d been on the transplant list since early September with one false start in October.  When the beeper finally went off, it was a go – a new heart was ready and a new life pending.  I won’t go into all the details here as I’m putting together a movie which will have the whole journey.

The support for our family by our friends, co-workers and community has been amazing.  Thank you for what you’ve done and what you’re doing.  Stay tuned for more as Tim moves through rehabilitation and into this new chapter of his life.

A monster night…

I haven’t been to Saratoga Speedway in years, probably decades.  This past Saturday some family and friends ventured up to the speedway for an evening of monster trucks, smash to pass car racing and some overall noise, burning rubber and action.  It was quite a fun, family-friendly night and I really enjoyed it.  Here is a small sampling of the action we saw:

A Delish Dish…

Thursday night, Josée and I had a wonderful evening with two of our good friends, Abs and Marcie.  One of our favourite restaurants, Locals, was hosting a wine-pairing event, featuring wines from Wild Goose Winery located in Okanagan Falls.  The menu was exceptional, full of delicious local foods.  Chef Ronald mentioned that the Comox Valley’s nickname of the Provence of Canada was well deserved as there are over 100 local farms providing a multitude of products.  We had a few nice visits with the vintner and learned about the family run winery.  It was a really nice evening of food, wine and friendship!

Wildplay

Jon, Rick and I tackled the Wildplay in Nanaimo.  It was their first time attempting the obstacle course in the trees and both did very well, especially Rick as heights aren’t his thing; the highest point in the course is nearly 25 metres.  It took us close to two hours to finish the whole thing, a far cry from the 13 minute record, but we had a lot of fun.  We finished the day off with a nice lunch at Nori, my favourite Nanaimo restaurant.  It was a fun day and great to catch up with two people I don’t see often.

Boccé 2013

Screen Shot 2013-06-25 at 7.49.54 AMWell, mark your calendars and get your balls polished up, the 2013 edition of the Boccé Bash is now here.   The tourney date is Saturday, August 10th on the boccé pitches @ Knight.  We’ll follow the usual format – details to follow in a few weeks.  Just remember that registration commences July 10th and space is limited to 24 teams.  You can register at my office or if you see me in person; $50 per team (we need team name and t-shirt sizes) and pay to play.  Costumes and team themes encouraged.  Don’t delay as it fills up fast (as some of you can remember from last year!).  Thanks and see you soon!
